BUMPY enjoyed a successful return to the 9-Day Motorcycle Live 2011 Show at Birmingham NEC where they again provided free trials lessons in the ACU Trials Zone. With attendance figures up 14% on last year, 112,197 visitors got a chance to sample the skill and ability required to ride in trials. The ACU and BUMPY staff were overwhelmed with people wanting to try their hand at trials riding. The free Trials Taster Sessions were oversubscribed on each of the nine days with many disappointed people either being put on the reserve list or being turned away.
After meeting all the necessary requirements to satisfy the ACU staff, 180 willing participants were entrusted to BUMPY’s ACU Coaches; Dan Thorpe, Katy Sunter and Julian Ford and kitted up in the latest Wulfsport boots, gloves, helmet, and shirt. Each individual was then introduced to the 2012 Gas Gas TXT Pro 125cc machinery and were taught about body position, clutch and throttle control, through a variety of challenging exercises. Each participant left with a smile on their face and a starter pack from the ACU giving them the opportunity to start their trials riding career. The packs included personalised information with regards to contact details of local centres and clubs for each participant. Current British S3 Parts National Trials Champion Dan Thorpe and top lady trials rider Katy Sunter performed daily trials demonstrations with commentary from DJ Roger ‘Red Wine’ Smith educating viewers of all the techniques used. The introduction of the children’s Mecatecno 36V electric trials bike to these demonstrations was certainly a hit. Even rare footage of Project Manager Carolyne Kenzitt on this machine can be found on BUMPY's YouTube Channel. Averaging 20 lessons per day and no accidents (other than DJ Red Wine falling off to rapturous applause during one of his guest appearances!!!), the ACU couldn’t fail to be impressed with the professional standard of tuition from BUMPY. Add in the 98 lessons from the earlier Dirt Bike Show, then BUMPY have provided the opportunity for nearly 300 new starters to trials. BUMPY Ltd is a registered Charity (Registered Charity No. 702335) and could not have made this successful venture without help and support from their fantastic sponsors. Our heartfelt thanks go to John Shirt of Gas Gas Motos UK, Bill Brown of Wulfsport International, John Hayden from Putoline Oils, Jason Fieldsend from Carole Nash, John Hulme of Trial Magazine, Caroline and Robin from Mecatecno, Nick Jordan of Jordan Bikes, and the Yorkshire Centre ACU. Special thanks must go to Nigel Land of Gryphon Services for assistance in setting up and breaking down. Thanks guys. |
