ACU/BUMPY Joint Venture Makes Successful Debut at the NEC Show!!!
BUMPY Ltd attended the 9-Day Carole Nash Motorcycle Live Show (formerly the NEC Motorcycle Show) in conjunction with the ACU Trials and Enduro Dept. The ‘ACU Trials Zone’ provided a twice Daily trials demonstrations and over 170 free trials lessons in the ‘Try Our Sport’ Initiative.
After meeting all the necessary requirements to satisfy the ACU staff, each individual was entrusted to Bumpy and kitted up in the latest Wulfsport Helmet and Boots. They were then introduced to the 2011 Gas Gas TXT Pro 125 provided by Gas Gas UK and Colin Appleyard Motorcycles, and were then given some Expert tuition in trials riding from their Bumpy and ACU Coach’s; Dan Thorpe, Katy Sunter and Julian Ford on the Gas Gas machinery. The main focus of each lesson was body position, clutch and throttle control, through a variety of challenging exercises. Each grinning individual left the arena with a taste of what could be and hungry for more, and also a starter pack including information and contact details of various trials clubs and centres which are local to them. Further information on the different ACU Centre’s and Clubs can be found on their website: www.acu.org.uk
Current British Novogar National Champion Dan Thorpe performed the twice daily trials demonstrations with commentary educating viewers of all the techniques used. The emphasis was to attract the interest of potential trials riders rather than to scare them off with death defying stunts, with retro style ‘Kickstart’ sections being used. This plan worked to perfection with every one of the pre-booked slots being taken up, making it a sell-out for all of the 9 days!
Averaging 19 lessons per day and no accidents (other than Dan falling off to rapturous applause during one of his demos!!!), the ACU couldn’t fail to be impressed with the professional standard of tuition from Bumpy and as a result, plans are already being made to repeat this successful venture for future events.
Passed both Mod1 and Mod2 first time thanks to Andy and Mark.
I had a great time, riding on really good bikes with a really friendly instructor, the tests were actually quite enjoyable too! Mod1 in the thick fog, and Mod2 - a nice sunny day's ride!
